Aliso Ranch Stables
October Newsletter
From the Manger:
I can’t believe it’s already October! Time flies.
I wanted to start off with some exciting news. We completed 4 new corrals and hopefully will get the two remaining completed this month. Once we complete all the corrals, we will start on the five new 24’ X 24’ stalls. I appreciate your patience during this time. I will send out an email to see who is interested in relocating to our new area “The Heights” as soon as they are completed.
I am very pleased with all the positive feedback I have received about our new assistant ranch manager, Janet Pozzebon. She has brought great things to ARS with her vast knowledge of horses, caring attitude, and willingness to help whenever needed. Thank you, Janet, for being a great asset to the ARS workforce.
I would like to welcome a couple of new boarders. Jamie Webber who owns Cowboy stalled in the B Barn and Lisa Halstead who owns Big Mama stalled in the JW Barn. Please welcome them to ARS.
We have a new trainer here at ARS. His name is Rob Haley. Rob has many years of experience, and his technique embraces natural horsemanship. He offers several services that are listed on the ARS website but he is also offering to help people out on the trail if they have a green horse or possible trail fear issues. If you find yourself with horse issues take advantage of Rob’s experience. His bio and price list are on the Boarder page on the ARS website www.alisoranchstables.com.
Update from Imme Spencer:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update as many seem to be under the impression I have left Aliso Ranch and that I am no longer available for lessons. I did move out of the Ranch House, but I will still be available for lessons at Aliso as usual by appointment. I am blessed to have outside clients and a busy schedule, but please don't hesitate to reach out if you want to set something up. www.heartandsoulhorsemanship.com . Call 808 280 1815 for all appointments!”
Janet has arranged for a professional body clipper to come to the ranch to body clip horses mid-October. If you are interested, please contact Janet the assistant manager.
Bedding Price Increase: All bedding is now $10.00 per bag due to our costs increasing. Any bedding purchased after 9/21/2021 is subject to the increase. Bedding purchased before then is still $9.00 per bag. Please make a mental note of this when you pay up for the month of September.
Infinity Electrical will be coming shortly to address lighting at the barns, the arena light timer, and other electrical issues here at ARS. If you see anything electrical that needs addressing, please let me know so we can address.
As mentioned in our last newsletter, Tami Elkayam was here in July to treat several horses at ARS. I would like to share a boarder’s story (Shanna) regarding her experience when Tami saw Shanna’s horse at ARS in May and so glad everything has worked out well.
Shanna’s Story
Hi Tom,
I have attached 5 photos of Shiner Bock’s Epona shoe appointment 10 days ago in Paso Robles. Monique Craig has a PHD from Stanford and chose to become the equine podiatry expert; she is the president of Epona Mind.
Tami’s bodywork on Shiner was the start of his recovery to being sound again after she aligned him.
Then, Tami’s recommendation to use Epona Mind for X-ray digital imaging and composite shoes for Shiner’s evident high and low hoof growth issue was a saving grace.
I am pleased to report that Shiner is getting his spirit back and is beginning to take his right lead again which has not been possible for years.
Monique frankly stated that the problem with Shiner’s lameness was quite simply “bad trimming”. His cannon bone was pitched forward at a 15 degree angle and with proper trimming and custom shoe he left there at 7 degrees.
His new tennis shoes are made of polyurethane and are flexible to allow hoof growth.
Monique wrote “The Hoof Book” which is so informative and comprehensive: https://www.eponamind.com/the-hoof-book/?gploaded=true&gploaded=true&gpcheckthirdparty=true
The annual ARS BBQ was a great success! It feels good to get back to socializing again with good food, good music, and good company. Jeffrey Smith, Managing Owner and his wife, Rebecca, David Armstrong, CEO, and Michelle Parcher, Office Manager, also attended and took a tour of the ranch. Jeffrey, David, and Michelle commented that the ranch never looked so good. These compliments are the result of our continuous improvements and the wonderful boarders! The band was awesome and was evident by the responses I received from all who joined the shindig. I am glad the event went so well and looking forward to our next BBQ.
“Which flake of alfalfa do you prefer” game has ended, thank you to all who took their time to play. Below you will find a few links to online articles for you to read regarding alfalfa and other grass hays for your reading pleasure.

Just a friendly reminder to please adhere to the ARS rules and regulations. I know at times we can forget or be complacent about them, but we want to make sure we are courteous to all boarders here. Here are some friendly reminders.
· Please pick up after your horse. I see a lot of horse manure (a.k.a. road apples) all over ARS premises.
· Please place equipment back when you are done with it.
· Please close the gates to the turnouts when you are done.
Well, I think I have provided you with a laundry of reading material and information for this month and hopefully you find it beneficial. FYI – You can now access Boarder announcements and newsletters online on our website by clicking on the link below.
